You can cease a process by going to the career/dating tracker on the ipad, it shows as a tab inside the bottom right of the screen with a briefcase and humans. when you open that tracker, select the "profession" tab. to stop a job, visit the sim, tap the task icon with the small "i". you'll then get a panel of all of the jobs and the option to "stop task".
